Become a TEECHER

What does it mean to be a TEECHer?

TEECHers are educators who are committed to teaching in ways that center students and their communities. Educators of all races, ethnicities, cultures and religions who care deeply about cultural responsiveness, justice, equity and inclusion are great fits for the TEECH program.

Being a TEECHer is not about having everything figured out. It is about staying rooted in why you came to teaching in the first place, even as you navigate the real constraints of schools, systems, and policies.

TEECHers are learners, collaborators, and contributors. They grow alongside one another through shared experiences, mutual support, community-based learning, and access to resources designed to support both professional practice and personal sustainability.

You may be a good fit for TEECH if you are…

  • Currently teaching, preparing to teach, or returning to teaching after a breakInterested in culturally responsive, community-rooted, and equity-centered teaching practices

  • Looking for support that goes beyond surface-level strategies or one-off workshops

  • Seeking a professional community that values reflection, honesty, and growth rather than perfection

You do not need to have formal training in culturally responsive teaching to get started. Curiosity, commitment, openness, and a willingness to learn alongside others are what matter most.

TEECH is especially designed to support teachers working in under-resourced schools or serving communities that have historically been marginalized by education systems.

The TEECH Program

As a TEECHer, you are part of a sustained, place-based learning experience designed to support both your teaching practice and your resilience within the profession. Over time, TEECHers engage in:

Learning through community immersion

Participating in summer immersion experiences that are grounded in the local cultural communities connected to your school, city, or region. This includes learning local histories, spending time with community members, and building relationships that deepen your understanding of the cultural knowledge and ways of being your students bring into school.d books and resources from leading authors and practitioners in culturally responsive education. These texts are integrated into the learning experience and connected directly to reflection and practice.

Ongoing, connected professional learning

Engaging in workshops during the school year that build on community immersion experiences and focus on translating learning into classroom practice. These sessions are designed to be coherent and cumulative, rather than one-off professional development.

Classroom-based coaching and support

Working with experienced educators and coaches to apply culturally responsive practices in real classroom contexts. Coaching is focused on helping you reflect, adapt, and grow, not on evaluation or compliance.

Developing critical reflection as a practice

Learning how to examine your own assumptions, instructional choices, and school practices through structured reflection. This includes developing the capacity to engage honestly with complexity, uncertainty, and growth over time.

Learning community-based ways of knowing and being

Exploring the cultural knowledge systems, values, and practices present within your students’ communities. Rather than positioning teachers as experts in every culture, TEECH emphasizes humility, curiosity, and ongoing learning across multiple cultural contexts.

Belonging to a cohort of early-career educators

Joining a cohort of like-minded educators who learn together throughout the school year. Cohort spaces are designed to support connection, shared problem-solving, and collective growth, especially during the demanding early years of teaching.

Community, joy, and well-being through shared gatherings

Coming together for monthly Saturday brunch gatherings that center relationship-building and care. These gatherings feature food prepared by local minoritized-owned restaurants and catering businesses, supporting local economies while creating space for joy, nourishment, and community connection.

Engaging with current scholarship and thought leadership

Learning alongside peers through curated books and resources from leading authors and practitioners in culturally responsive education. These texts are integrated into the learning experience and connected directly to reflection and practice.

TEECHer Brunch

Many educators first experience TEECH through our monthly Sunday Brunches. Held once a month during the school year at rotating locations, these gatherings are free, welcoming professional learning spaces centered on well-being, community connection, and sustaining yourself as a culturally responsive educator.
